Laurence Sandman
Engineer – Health & Safety Expert

Laurence qualified as an engineer and joined the CEGB, later PowerGen. Between 1981 and 1999 he worked at Connah’s Quay and at the hydro plant at Rheidol, where he held a range of engineering and safety roles. After having obtained an IOSH qualification, he became Head of Engineering and Safety and then the Safety Advisor at Connah’s Quay CCGT Power Station, where he was in post from construction to operation, setting up its safety management systems, training requirements and its risk assessment and auditing systems. He subsequently provided company-wide advice, training and audit in connection with the development of new sites for local operators in safety management, policy and procedures and risk assessment. He advised more widely, dealing specifically with the safety requirements of Kinetica (a gas company with operations in London, Killingholme and Tamworth), Tapada (a CCPP in Portugal) and Paguthan (a CCPP in India). In 1999 he set up his own health and safety consultancy. Laurence Sandman
